Finally some progress !

As I had hoped the chassis is indeed freed in this update ! Unfortunately it has been almost 4 months since my last update…. The cutting took quite some time since I was careful not to accidentally cut more fiberglass than absolutely necessary and I simply haven’t had the time to work on the car as I had hoped.

The first picture is from when the chassis had just regained its freedom. The fiberglass body can be seen to the right.

That didn’t look to bad. In the 2nd picture all parts have been removed from the chassis and if you look at the right part of the picture you might notice that something is missing.

The 3rd picture gives a close up. This looks bad but it is what I had expected after hearing what others have found when removing the chassis. All the outer rails in the two sides have to be replaced along with a couple of other tubes in various places.

Fortunately there has not been made many repairs to the chassis which might have complicated the rebuild. But the one repair that has been made is quite amazing as can be seen in the 4th picture

It looks like a tube with completely wrong dimensions was used. And what a beautiful welding !

It will not be long until I’m ready to send the chassis off for repairs. It’s going to be interesting to get an estimate on the cost for the repairs. While the chassis is being repaired I’ll have a look at the fiberglass body and start removing the old cell coating and doing the necessary body repairs.

I will be bolting the chassis and body back together instead of bonding them together as they were originally. This will take a bit of engineering but I’ve received a couple of instructions that will be helpful in this. The bolted on chassis will greatly facilitate removing the chassis and will most certainly lessen the risk of rust.

Good to see that it is moving along. Have you thought about roll cage and seatbelt mounts yet?
